President Obama; “America is Great Right Now”

The importance of being in your correct AFRIKAN mind can not be stressed enough. In the case of President Obama saying “America was great,” I imagine that ego was talking. Surely, he does not believe those words to be true. Or could he? Wondering minds want to know.

Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump has pledged to “make America great again.” In a thinly veiled dig at Trump, President Obama said on Wednesday that America is “great right now.”

“There is nothing particularly patriotic or American about talking down America,” Obama said at a meeting of the Business Roundtable in Washington, The Hill reports. [That much is true. That’s why when we “talk down” America here at Liberty and Justice for All, our intention is far from being seen as patriotic or American. We’ve given up that pipe dream, long, long ago.]

There is work to be done, Obama said, but the president still believes America is still a beacon of light for the world. [How can one be the light of the world when one consistently and habitually targets, dehumanizes, cheats, steals and kills the light, which is it’s own people? Newsflash: It’s not possible.]

“America is great right now,” he said. “America is winning right now.” [This does not sound like a man who’s in his correct mind. Again I say, when we know better, we do better.]

9 Facts that Prove America is NOT great right now.

1.) A study from 2012 found that the average white household has 22 times as much wealth as the average black household:

2.) African-American are disproportionately poor, comprising only 13 percent of the population, but receiving around 26 percent of the food stamp benefits.

3.) A recent study found that blacks sometimes develop physical health conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes, after experiencing discrimination at an early age.

4.) Black children are less likely to receive pain medication in emergency rooms, read a study that found just 12 percent of black children got an opioid drug for pain during ER visits.

5.) In 2008, more than half of all Americans–53 percent–categorized themselves as “middle class”. But in 2014, only 44 percent of all Americans still considered themselves to be “middle class”.

6.) According to a 2014 Pew poll, the wealth gap between African-Americans and whites has continued to grow.

7.) In this country that Obama calls “great”, 12 percent of white children live in areas of concentrated poverty, but 45 percent of African-American children do.

8.) The incarceration rate for black men is more than six times higher than it is for white men.

9.) Over half of the kids in U.S. public schools live in poverty.

Do those facts point to an America that’s doing great? Most people on the left side of the ideological spectrum would agree that Donald Trump’s not the man to fix America’s problems, but America is not doing great, especially in so far as African-Americans are concerned. We aren’t winning.
